Graduation Dance

The year was nineteen fifty seven,
As I prepared for my graduation dance,
Happiness and excitement had reached its peek,
And I knew I would finally have a chance.

To hold close the girl with dark brown eyes,
And a tiny space between her front teeth,
Wavy brown hair and a beautiful smile,
She had a way of bringing me peace.

Then finally I found myself holding her close,
It was like a visit to Heaven that night,
We swayed to the sound of the Everly Brother's,
Slow dancing and holding her tight.

The evening could not have been more perfect,
As all my dreams had been made to come true,
I remember wishing that the moment could last,
And for our dance to never be through.

Our cheeks touched against one another,
Hearts beating at the feel of it's glow,
Eyes closed and dancing through Heaven,
A cherished moment I would never let go.

With the beginning of a long hot summer,
We didn't see one another much after that,
Then when we began classes in high school,
In totally different classes we sat.

Before long it was life as a teenager,
Pretty girls and handsome young boys,
We began dating and dancing with others,
Young lovers just living the joy.
