| KOREA THE FORGOTTEN WAR |
| Forgotten War
Twas the war that never was it seems. For shame, America forgot to remember her sons, who like those from other wars were the same. In a place so far the people could not see or hear, and on the country it left no scar, because most Americans never knew the nation was at war. They were young men so innocent and bold, they went with their guns to a place were they were told, that only those who were there could know just how cold. From every state in the union they came to this war with no fame. Now the nation is to blame; for who cared, or would shed tears, but only those to whom they were so dear. There were names like Punch-Bowl, Old Baldy, T-Bone, Porkchop, and many hills no human would claim: And one called Heartbreak, and many a wife and mother so sad it would make. For most Americans the war did not touch; then how could the nation boast, having won the big war and for such a small war care that much. Twas a war before rebellion, when young men would serve and hold nothing back; not even their lives which they freely gave, and now from their country they much more deserve. On quiet nights now, my mind wanders back to a place in time, where there, many years ago, I saw so many body bags with young men so fair, who gave all when their country made that call. |
