| Jackie, I spoke too soon, when I wrote in your guest book about which page I liked the best.
I had only looked at one other page, when I looked at "your" photos page. Although I meant what I said, now that I have seen the others, I think all of the pages are outstanding. You are truly an "Artist", and have brought back so many memories, and some tears too. I guess the page that touched me so much, was your "tribute" to your father. I was a corporal in the Air Force, on Okinawa 1950-1952, as I was only 17 when the Korean war started, so they sent me to Okinawa, because you had to be 18 to go into the combat zone. I realize the time frame for the songs is not real important, because the photos and verse really tell the story, but I noted "The soldier's last letter" was one of my favorites I used to play and sing, the year before Korea. One song I didn't see, which was very popular in DaNang, Vietnam in 1966, was Buck Owen's "Together Again". The guys were all buying the "good" stereo equipment, and one "Hooch" (barracks), would try to "outdo" the other, with "Together Again", and the roofs would vibrate.*smile* Thank you so much Jackie, as I retired from the Air Force in 1970, and your website is a truly wonderful tribute to all men and women who have served in the US Military Services. You are a perfect example of why "dads" and "moms" are willing to go to war and fight, and die, if necessary to keep our nation "free". I had many relatives and friends, that were in WWI, and WWII, as I'm sure you mom and dad did, that made it possible for us to grow up. God bless you, and don't forget those who are in the uniforms today, and shedding blood, so the people of Iraq may one day know how it feels to live in a free country. |
