| A long time ago on a hillside in Tennessee
A young man stood in the snow and blood Right up to his knees With a gun and a pocket bible And just a simple prayer He fought for a nation under God Just because he cared Sing out American for our Veterans Who gave their all to see Sing out American for our Veterans Who saved our integrity Sing out American for our Veterans Who fought to serve Sing out American for our Veterans Who kept our dreams alive In a jungle in Viet Nam A soldier stood all alone Friends that he has fought with Were all dead and gone As the bullets passed by him He looked to heaven and said Lord if You spare my life today I'll walk right by your side With solemn tearful hearts And a country to defend Our brave men of honor Wouldn't bow or wouldn't bend They stood for our country And served with all their might They believed in the red - white - and blue And fought for America's plight (Recitation) Today we meet - we sing and give honor To our men and women who fought our battles Who have passed each grueling test They wore our country's uniforms And their dedication was relentless Look at our flag and please remember those folks Who served from every state For they are someone's brother, son, Mother, daughter, sister And they are ALL first rate!
